Diary of a Superhero – Producer, Cinematographer

In 2008, I started working with director John-Michael Rohret on preproduction of a feature film version of a campus television show called “Diary of a Superhero”. We continued in preproduction for six months, during which time I applied for and received a grant from the Iowa Arts Council. We shot primarily in the Iowa City region and resourcefully used the 500 year floods of 2008 to the production’s advantage. Studio sets were built and shot in an abandoned Good Will that was donated to the production. “Diary of a Superhero” went into distribution on DVD in 2010, after it had premiered to a sold out crowd and screened before audiences for two weekends. The film screened at festivals and won The Award of Excellence from the Iowa Motion Picture Association.

The Phantom of the Wieting Opera – Director

“The Phantom of the Wieting Opera” is a short documentary I made in my hometown over a summer while I was travelling back an forth across Iowa. My first film experiences took place in the old Wieting opera house in my home town. I found out the opera house was being renovated and was in desperate need of help with the fundraising. I was immediately interested in helping to tell the opera house’s story. The documentary helped to secure a $400,000 grant from Vision Iowa.
